It’s baaackkk.  Everyone’s favorite day of the week has returned bigger and better!  In honor of the return of this time honored Wednesday tradition, I have decided to share with you my best kept secret. A secret so big it makes Area 51 look like a bible story.  You may be wondering why I was hoarding my secret like Gollum and his “precious,” but when you know something this good you want to keep it to yourself; chalk it up to paranoia.  Now that I’ve got you on the edge of your seats, I can make my big reveal…

Nestled in the heart of my favorite grocery store, Trader Joes, is a small selection of wine and spirits.  At first glance it seems like an ordinary liquor store until you see an entire wall of wine with a sign that says “Charles Shaw Winery” with a magical little $2.99 under it.  The first time I saw the sign (and it opened up my eyes) I felt like I had just won the chocolate factory from Willy Wonka.  I bought 5 bottles having absolutely no idea what it tastes like for the sheer fact that a bottle of wine cost 2 bucks.  For all I knew I could have just bought 10 bucks worth of pisswater.  However, I was pleasantly surprised that Sauvignon Blanc I had purchased did not in fact taste like bodily fluids, but rather a pleasant mix of citrus and passion fruit with a kiss of vanilla.  It was sweet yet subtly zesty. If the song bittersweet symphony had a flavor I imagine it would taste something like Chuck Sauv.  Though it had the faint aroma of cannabis and was slightly on the acidic side, it beat the pants off of some of the $20 bottles I had tried before.

Ever since then I have had a running love affair with Charles Shaw.  In addition to the Sauv, the 2 repertoire includes Shiraz, Pinot Grigio, and White Zinfandel varietals.  Though I must sadly state the price went up 50 cents ending the era of the two buck chuck (rest in peace), paying $2.50 for a bottle of wine is nothing to shake your fist at. Try it for yourself and you too will be a Chuck addict.

Keep you wallets full and your mouths happy!
